MR. JOSH

Joshuah Rivera is an NYC-based dancer and freelance artist, born and raised in Garrison, IA.  Beginning his career as a level 8 USAG gymnast. Winning numerous competitions around the country, he decided to quit Gymnastics at the age of 14 to fully pursue a career in dance.  Whilst being a competitive gymnast he also began competitive dance at the age of 8.  He was able to work with a variety of choreographers ranging in styles, including Diana Matos & Ivan Koumaev, Jaimie Goodwin, Heather Lang, Stacey Tookey, Chantelle Good, Jess Hendricks, Peter Chu, Matthew Rich, Anthony Morgierato & many more. 

After graduating from high school Josh briefly attended The Bridge Movement, a two year pre-professional dance program curated by Stacey Tookey.  At The Bridge he had opportunities to work & learn with different working professionals in the industry. During his time in the program he collaborated with the second year cohort and Heather Lang to create an evening length work entitled, “I Still Don’t Know.” He also helped create, teach, and fund a dance intensive entitled, “Mosaic Movement.” 

Josh has also made and been apart of numerous short films such as the, “The Premiere Grand Egyptian Museum Short film” choreographed by Hani Abaza, “Love on the Menu” made in collaboration with the 2024-2026 Bridge Alumni, “Something Jazzy” made in collaboration with the 2024-2026 Bridge Alumni, "Permission Granted” made by Josh Rivera,  &  “Party in the USA”   directed and made by Chole Jachowicz.

After graduating from the Bridge he continued his dance training in NYC. Taking classes at Gibney, Peridance Center, Mark Morris, Steps on Broadway, & Brickhouse NYC. His main goal is to join a company in hopes of moving to Europe to pursue concert dance. Josh began his teaching career at 15 as a lifeguard. Shortly after this he taught numerous styles of dance and gymnastics all across the USA. Josh is eager to share his knowledge and love for dance, and hopes to facilitate a supported, informative, and lively environment for all his students to thrive.
